The Guitar Note Trainer is an app to help you learn the notes on the guitar neck - one of the most essential skills for progressing guitarists!

It has four training modes, Name The Note where you have to name the note shown on the neck, Find A Note where you have to find a given note on the neck in all 6 positions, Memory Quiz 1 where you have to name a note having been given its position, and Memory Quiz 2 where you must name all the notes across a given fret (a tough one!!).

There are some "Easy" options for those just starting out to limit your range of answers.

You also have an audio option to hear the notes as you select them!

If you really need to cheat you can swipe your finger diagonally across the fretboard and all the notes will show for a second :)

Im sure youll find this app very helpful, all you need to add is practice time!

Best wishes, Justin

Pros and cons of Guitar Fretboard Note Trainer app for iPhone and iPad

Guitar Fretboard Note Trainer app good for

You cant always carry a guitar around with you but you can always carry this guitar fret board assistant in you smart whatever.
This is an OK first attempt. Adjusting the volume is a minor PITA. Should be adjustable from within the app. It would be awesome if the app could take audio input instead of just the little keyboard. I.e. Use a played note to verify.
Never had that much fun finding notes on the fretboard before! Thanks Justin, for this great App :)
... However, two bugs: Seems the 2nd game (name the note?) has a bug, as quite often I cannot touch the correct position. Need to hit a wrong one before it accepts the correct one (often on the screen edge of my iPhone5). In the Quiz2 (4th game) it will stay on the last position even if you start a new quiz... Should reset back to first position.
Im using this app quite a while now. Its a perfect app for beginning and intermediate guitar players. Its a must have for every guitar player especially for those who want to support justin and its awesome projects. Youre doing a wonderful job justin Greetings from Germany;-)
Ive tried a few other fretboard apps but this one works. So simple and I can see the whole fretboard!

Some bad moments

Im a begginer, which means Im always looking for good ways to train my guitar skills. This however seems to serve more as a way to make sure you practice the knowledge you already have. There is no tutorial, so you dont know what youre doing half the time and the interface is terrible, which makes it even worse. There could be potential if as previously stated, there was a tutorial. Also if for example it could tell me where the notes were and then I had to place their locations by memory, not just expect that I find them on my own by chance with no knowledge being given whatsoever. As it stands It is a horrible app and I regret buying it.
Great app to help the guitarist learn the fretboard notes. Good job Justin!
This app is very well designed and functions like a well oiled machine. The games and tests really give you a workout and actually help you learn the notes of the fretboard effectively. I couldnt be happier Justin :) If youre debating whether to buy this or not, let me give you some advice: Get It ;P
As usual, Justin has done an outstanding job of creating a useful and enjoyable way to improve our guitar skills. He has an uncommon knack for training and is truly the best at his craft. Bring us more, Justin, and thanks!
Ive only have had this on my phone a couple of minutes and can already tell it will serve as an amazing learning tool!!!
I love Justins apps... they are from a guitarists perspective! Better interface than most and does what it says on the tin. Allows for fretboard training several ways - naming notes or naming by fret and a few quiz modes. I really would like to see the ability to limit fret ranges and strings as well as a "smart" system where it revisits notes you got wrong more frequently which would make this 5 star. A note on the music staff option would really make it the best app out there. I long for the day Justin makes an app for guessing chords and scales!
